Differences between GTIPRO and GTIPRO LITE

The latest and most advanced models of Devilbiss for automotive refinishing are the GTIPRO and GTIPRO LITE. But what are the differences between these two guns?

It can be said that the GTIPRO LITE has a complete new design and is with only 430 gram (compared to 585 gram of GTIPRO) much “liter”.

Air caps

Both guns are available with three different air caps, i.e. one HVLP and two further air caps with high transfer efficiency (GTIPRO with Trans-Tech T1 and T2, and the GTIPRO LITE with “High Efficiency” air caps TE10 and TE20). These parts are not identical.

Nozzle/Needle Set-up

Both guns are available in the sizes of 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4mm. While the nozzle is the same type (PRO-200 series), the needle is different.

General

In general, beside the fluid nozzle, only the packing (SN-404) and cup (incl. filter) are identical and interchangeable. The other functional parts such as spreader valve assembly, spray head assembly and air flow valve have different designs. Especially the gun body and air valve assembly has got a completely new design.

The fast measurement of paint resistance

The Ransburg meter 76652-03 is a handheld meter designed for the fast measurement of the
electrical resistance of paints and varnishes used for electrostatic applications. It is an essential tool for paint labs, paint manufacturers, customers’ inspection dept., and other electrostatic equipment end users. Once the paint or coating resistance is determined, and found to be sprayed successfully, measuring resistivity with this meter provides a way to duplicate conditions. This is extremely important when troubleshooting problems with spray or rotational applicators.
The complete measuring kit 76652-03 includes the Multifunction Meter 76634-00 and the Paint Probe Assembly 7922-00. The Multi-Function Meter itself is powered by a single 9V alkaline battery. The meter has two scales, MΩ and kΩ that may be used for the measurement of the paint resistance.

Easy operation – results in seconds

The operation is very operator friendly: The meter dial has to be set to the right scale (usually first to the MΩ) and the paint probe plugged into the meter. Then the probe has to be immersed vertically into the well-mixed sample fluid until the holes at the bottom of the slots in the probe sleeve are submerged. A reading can be taken after only 5-10 seconds of submerging the probe. The paint resistivity range should be between 0.05 MΩ to 1.0 MΩ for Aerobells and Discs, and starting from 0.1 MΩ for most electrostatic spray guns.

Reduced Energy and Material Consumption in Compressed Air Installations

The Air Matic system of company ENSUTEC Products GmbH (Germany) is a newly developed and patented technology for compressed air installations that leads to energy savings, improved material efficiency and less overspray. It can be easily integrated into existing facilities such as paint shops or spray booth.

The Process: Cleaning – Ionizing – Heating

The Air Matic process includes the cleaning, ionizing and heating of the compressed air. The employment of 2-3 filter elements leads to clean compressed air that meets highest air purity standards (e.g. ISO 8573-1, category 1), and even surpasses strict standards when it comes to oil vapour- and oil dust filtering.

Spray booth with Air Matic technology

The high-purity compressed air can be variable adjusted to the optimal temperature in a range of 0-140° Celsius. The elevated temperature, in connection with the static discharged air, relaxes the paint much better, allows finer atomization and improved transfer efficiency in spray coating applications such as wet painting (solvent based, water based), adhesive spraying (incl. hot wax), mould making and other manual and automated applications. The system works well in connection with conventional spray guns, HVLP guns, Air Mix-technology, flat-coaters and robot facilities.

Improved Quality – Less Overspray

The Air Matic system amortises very fast, mainly due to improved parts quality. The very fine atomization and high-purity of compressed air reduces possible reworks like grinding, polishing etc. Another advantage is overspray reduction: the gentle coating with higher transfer efficiency is able to save over 10% coating material. The advantages at a glance:

Quality: finer atomization, a more even, softer spray pattern

Air Matic 3000W with Cefla flat-coater

Energy: reduction of compressed air consumption (10-30%), reduction of atomization pressure, reduction of drying time

Material: less overspray and higher transfer efficiency leads to less material consumption (10-20%) and less thinner consumption (30-60%)

Technology: no formation of condensate, constant air temperature, no additional filter elements required.

The Air Matic system is compact, available in three different sizes (500W, 1500W and 3000W) and can be easily integrated into existing facilities. It is almost maintenance-free, only filters should be changed at given time. For more information contact us: info@bsc-teknik.com

Binks has introduced a new airless gun, the “Airless 75 Spray Gun” for a maximum pressure of 7500 PSI. Unique needle design and packing are the special features of this gun, i.e. the needle is kept out of the fluid’s path, and the packing is adjustable for longer life.

Two fluid inlet options are available:

1) The gun has an external stainless steel fluid tube (Part No. 0811-7500-1) with an optional heat guard that allows the use of heated coatings up to 175°F (79°C).

2) At the Binks Airless 75 Direct Connect model (Part No. 0811-7500-2) the fluid hose is attached directly to the gun.

Airless 75 Spray Gun Direct Connect (photo: Binks)

Airless 75 Spray Gun with External Stainless Steel Fluid Tube (photo: Binks)

Due to the thick-walled stainless steel fluid tube and fluid passages made of tungsten carbide, this gun is compatible with almost any coating, from stain to zinc, including high solids and abrasive industrial materials. The gun has also a stress reducing ergonomic handle and a two finger trigger. This combination gives the operator more control, and better leverage of the spray gun.

Since the introduction of the first cold water paint spray system in the year 1892, the company Binks has continuously introduced new products and services in the field of spray coating, from HVLP spray guns and airless spray systems to the latest pump technologies (incl. diaphragm pumps and horizontal piston pumps). The company has always put a special focus on customer service, and the website (www.binks.com) is an important part of it containing information on new product developments, service instructions, operator manuals and also a “Tip of the week” category. This popular category contains tips and information on topics such as:

What is the difference between Conventional, HVLP, Turbine HVLP and Trans-Tech (LVMP) technologies?

How do I get the pump to prime, especially first thing in the morning after it’s been sitting all night?

What size air hose should I use for my spray gun?

What is the minimum velocity of paint in a circulating system?

What is the difference between a valve and a regulator?

What causes excessive pressure drop on the main line gauge of the filter/regulator?

What are my options for mixing two component materials?

How does heat relate to viscosity in a coating?
